Madurai, Jan 9 (UNI) Additional Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel would be deployed at the Madurai Airport shortly following a red alert sounded by the Civil Aviation Ministry to airports across the country, according to Airport sources here.

The sources told UNI today the airport had been put on high alert following an e-mail threatening to attack the Indira Gandhi International Airport on January 12.

Already 55 CISF personnel were guarding the Madurai Airport.

Surveillance had been intensified and round-the-clock vigil maintained.

Anti-sabotage checks have been conducted by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and Sniffer Dogs pressed into service, as part of the heightened security arrangements.

The sources said every passenger arriving or departing from the airport was being frisked and vehicles thoroughly checked as a precautionary measure.

However, specific instructions have been issued to security men to ensure the passengers were not harassed.
