Achutanandan invites NRIs to invest in Kerala

New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achutanandan will soon visit Gulf countries to meet the non-residents and to personally invite them to invest in the State as it enjoys a very ideal environment.

Speaking at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here today, Mr Achutanandan lauded the substantial contribution made by them in the economic development of the country. His government had decided to form a Welfare Fund for the benefit of the NRIs and also proposed to have an environmenally friendly village with world class facilities.

The Chief Minister said formation of a Company to channelise investments from non-resident Keralaites was also contempleted.

He said his government was keen to create an atmosphere in which they feel comfortable to invest their hard earned money for development of the State while ensuring sufficient returns to themselves as there were tremendous opportunities in tourism, IT, bio technology, electronics and service industries.

On complaints relating to high cost of air tickets from Gulf countries to Kerala, he said the State government had asked the Civic Aviation ministry to intervene and take steps to reduce the air fares.

The Chief Minister said private airlines have come forward offering low fares to the Gulf and one such flight would start from Janaury 19.

Later, interacting with prominent non-resident Keralaites from the Gulf, the Chief Minister said he would examine their suggestions regarding starting a State government airlines, high cost of Air India fares, grievances of Malayalees languishing in Gulf jails and better functioning of the Karipur airport.

Those who interacted with the Chief Minister were Mr Yusuf Ali, Dr Ravi Pillai and others.
