Vijender demands ordinance to stop demolition of 4th, 5th floor
New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta today demanded that an Ordinance be issued to stop demolition action at fourth and fifth floors immediately so as to save thousands of families residing on these floors.
Making this demand from Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, Mr Gupta said the MCD had not taken any action to demolish fourth and fifth floor below the height of 15 mtrs. The MCD had also filed an affidavit before the High Court to this effect.
Addressing the reporters, Mr Gupta said the Standing Committee, in its December 13 meeting, passed a resolution that one time amnesty be granted to fourth and fifth floors residential properties.
Mr Gupta said most of the people residing on the fourth and fifth floors of residential premises were lower and middle class people who had purchased these flats by taking loans from banks. These people had been beguiled by the crafty builders.
They fell into their net out of their dire need for affordable accommodation in the city where the prices of properties had gone beyond the reach of lower and middle classes. They were already paying the price of their houses through their nose. If these people were ruined by demolition then their families will come on roads.
''It will adversely affect law and order situation in Delhi,''he said.
