Three arrested for bribing police to release prisoner
Bolangir, Jan 8 (UNI) The Bolangir police today arrested three people for trying to influence police for release of one Arjun Sahu, a prisoner lodged in Titlagarh jail.
Police said the trio -- Gandaram Behera, Hansaraj Sahu and Niranjan Nag had offered Rs 45,000 to the OIC of Sindhekela police station Subash Bhoi.
The police officer came to the district police headquarters when the trio offered him the cash to get his support to weaken the case so that the accused would get bail and release from the prison.
Arjun Sahu was arrested by Sindhekela police earlier for robbery and opening fire at the public.
The town police swung into action and arrested all the three accused, seized the cash and the vehicle from their possession.
Police said they used to receive threatening calls very often from one Kalia Pathak who introduced himself as the CBI Superintendent of Police.
Bolangir Superintendent of Police said the security inside the jail has been beefed up after the incident.
