Chandigarh, Jan 8 (UNI) Mobile medical units would be pressed into service in all districts of Haryana to provide better health services to the people at their doorsteps.
Stating this here today, Health Minister Kartar Devi said that these mobile units would be like operation theatres on-wheels as the doctors would be able to conduct operations in the units itself.
She said that the process to recruit 200 specialist doctors would commence soon. All health centres would also have ambulance facilities, especially for pregnant women in rural areas to bring them to health centres for delivery. More than 500 delivery huts have been set up, Ms Devi said.
By laying focus on institutional deliveries, the infant mortality rate has reduced from 61 per 1000 live births in 1999 to 42.
Similarly, maternal mortality rate has also been reduced from 302 in 1999 to 162, she informed.
Ms Devi said that with a view to effectively implement National Rural Health Mission, 10,784 Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) have been recruited.
