Chandigarh, Jan 8 (UNI) Punjab Congress spokesman and former minister S Jagmohan Singh Kang expressed shock and dismay over the "deteriorating" law and order situation of the state.

In a press release issued here today, Mr Kang while citing recent consecutive tragic incidents at Jalandhar where a college principal alongwith three others were murdered and a mini mutiny in the Central Jail said, "These incidents shows the apathy of the state government towards the law and order".

Mr Kang said, "The Congress Party had already expressed apprehensions in the Memorandum submitted to the Punjab Governor on December 13, 2007 that the law and order is taking back seat in the ruling alliance agenda of governance and the SAD-BJP government is busy on different priorities." "Ensuring law and order and safeguarding the life and property of the citizens is the prime duty of the Government. However, present alliance has failed to deliver on this basic issue," he said.

"If the SAD-BJP government is not capable of maintaining Law and Order in the four walls of the jail, the plight of common man in the street can be well imagined." "The Party condemns the apathy of the government towards law and order and calls upon the government to ensure safety of life and property of the citizens," Mr Kang said.
