Puducherry, Jan 8 (UNI) Even as the DMK, the Congress, and the CPI councillors decided to boycott the Puducherry Municipal Council meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, the meeting has been postponed, official sources said here today.
Municipal Chairperson Dr Sreedevi had convened a consultation meeting yesterday as a preleude to tomorrow's council meeting.
However, the councillors of the DMK, Congress and CPI boycotted the meeting, forcing it to be called off.
The DMK and Dr Sreedevi who happened to be the women's wing leader of the party, were not in good terms due to some reasons. Meantime, the councillors complained that they were not being consulted in any decision taken by the Chairperson.
Out of the 42 councillors, DMK had 11, Congress had nine and CPI one, besides four independents supporting the DMK. If 50 per cent councillors kept away from the meeting, resolutions could not be adopted and the meeting would have to be called off due to want of quorum.
If two meetings in succession were called off, the government could interfere and suspend or remove the Chairperson, the sources said.
