Itanagar, Jan 08: The Natural Environment and Properties Protection Group (NEPPG) today asked the North Eastern Electrical Power Corporation (NEEPCO) management to scrap off the 135 MW project of Ranganadi Hydro Electric Project at Yazali under Lower Subansiri district.

In a letter to NEEPCO CMD, the NEPPG said the project authorities have failed to live up to their promises made after the commissioning of the first phase of the project that has created a 'psychological barrier' between the local people and the corporation.

It also claimed that many government and private projects have been put on hold because of the proposed second phase construction, and that the NEEPCO authority was trying to force reassessment of properties in the project affected area.

The group has threatened to move to court if the project authority failed to listen to its view.Meanwhile, the Subansiri Lower Power Project Implementation Committee (SULPIC) had called an indefinite bandh from today at the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) project site at Dollungmukh, citing non-fulfillment of a series of demands.

The demands include release of land compensation and resettlement and rehabilitation packages for the affected families, besides basic amenities and job reservation for locals in Grade III and IV jobs.
