Medicines, Biotech, Sports to help Indo-Cuba coop: Somnath
New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Medicines, Biotechnology and sports have a huge potential for the future cooperation between India and Cuba as the latter has attained greater acheivements in those fields, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who is currently leading an Indian parliamentary delegation to Cuba, said today.
Speaking at a lunch hosted by the President of the National Assembly of the Peoples' Power, Ricardo Alarcon De Quesada, Mr Chatterjee said that the commonality of views and perceptive understanding of each other's concerns have helped in further promoting the relationship between the two countries.
He also congratulated Cuba on assuming the Chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), adding that the two countries had consistently worked together for the consolidation of NAM, a Lok Sabha Secretariat release issued here said.
Talking about the need for exchange of Parliamentary Delegation, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that these exchanges played a vital role in promoting people-to-people contacts, besides consolidating relations.
Mr Chatterjee hoped that such exchanges at regular intervals would deepen bilateral ties.
Earlier in the day, the Indian Parliamentary Delegation paid floral tributes at the Jose Marti Monument and visited the Jose Marti Memorial at the Revolution Square, Cuba.
The Indian Parliamentary Delegation is scheduled to meet the head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee and member of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba Fernando Remirez De Estenoz along with Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers Carlos Lage Davilla, the release added.
