Ahmedabad, Jan 8 (UNI) Kutch BJP MP P S Gadhavi requested Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to direct the authority concerned to see that the required additional land may be given to Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the development of Kandla Airport in Kutch District.

Mr Gadhavi in his letter to the Chief Minister said Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel had informed him that the development of Kandla Airport would be subject to transfer of required additional land by the state government free of cost to the AAI.

He said the runway edge lights, apron and taxiway edge lights can only be provided after the land is made available for installation of approach light system. The minister informed there was also a plan for construction of a new terminal building to cater to 150 passengers at a time from this airport, which required additional land.

The Kandla Airport's runway dimension is 1524m x 30m which was suitable to sustain operation upto ATR-42 types of aircraft under fair weather conditions. At present only Air Deccan was operating an ATR-42 aircraft on Mumbai-Kandla-Mumbai sector from this airport.
