Chandigarh boys and girls in hockey semis

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (UNI) Hosts Chandigarh and Punjab boys and girls stormed into the hockey (under-17) semi-finals of the 53rd National School Games here today.

Boys teams of Haryana and Orissa and girls teams of Haryana and HP also qualified for semi-finals. However, the rain disrupted quarter-final softball schedule.

In the quarter-final hockey matches for U-17 boys, Chandigarh beat Karnataka by 6-0 and Haryana prevailed over Himachal Pradesh by 3-2. Punjab beat UP by 2-1 and Orissa beat Delhi by 2-1. Punjab converted their fifth penalty corner through Manjinder Singh to gain first-half lead against Uttar Pradesh. Amit Kumar of UP equalised in the 61st minute. Deep Kumar of Punjab snatched the match winner in extra time by converting a penalty corner in the 69th minute of the game and had victory for his team.

Among the quarter final matches U-17 Girls, Punjab beat MP by 2-1; Haryana beat UP by 5-0; Chandiagrh beat Orissa by 4-1 and HP beat Uttrakhand by 2-0.

Chandigarh girls entered semi-final by defeating Orissa during qutar-final match. Monika of Chandigarh scored first goal for her team in the fifth minute by converting a penalty corner. In the second half, Reena converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 61st minute. Monika of Punjab scored another goal for her team in the 67th minute of the game, just after a minute Alka Tiwari of Chandigarh scored another field goal in the 68th minute. Anupa Bakla of Orissa scored a field goal in the 69th minute of the game.

Chandigarh won this game by 4-1.

Results: League matches of Hockey U-17 Boys: HP beat Assam by 3-0, Delhi beat Uttrakhand by 7-0, Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu by 3-0.

Hockey U-17 Girls: Chandigarh beat Uttrakhand by 6-0, MP beat Rajasthan by 10-0, Punjab beat Delhi by 8-1, Orissa beat Maharashtra by &-1 and match between Tamil Nadu and AP ended in draw with a score of one goal each.

Quarter-finals softball U-14 Boys: Chandigarh beat Vidya Bharti by 10-0 in GMSSS-40, Delhi beat Goa by 11-1, Punjab beat AP by 10-5.

Maharashtra beat Chhattisgarh by 11-0.

U-17 Boys: Chandigarh beat Rajasthan by 13-3 in GGSSS-23, Delhi beat AP by 12-0 in GMHS-39, Punjab beat Chhattisgarh by 2-0 in GMSSS-40, MP beat Haryana by 12-11 in GMHS-39. U-19 Boys: - Chandigarh beat Vidya Bharti buy 15-0 in GGMSSS-23, Kerela beat MP by 11-9 in GMHS-36, Punjab beat Haryana by 5-0 in GMSSS-40, Chhattisgarh beat Delhi by 6-2 in GMHS-36.

Quarter-final (Softball U-14 Girls): Chandigarh beat Vidya Bharti by 11-0, MP beat Haryana by 11-10, AP beat Maharashtra by 16-0. U-17 Girls: - Chandigarh beat Goa by 12-0 in GSSS-23, Punjab beat Maharashtra by 10-2, Delhi beat Rajasthan by 17-7.

U-19 Girls: Chandigarh beat AP by 10-0, Kerela beat Gujarat by 12-2, Delhi beat MP by 2-0.
