Bajaj auto rejigs business model to four wheelers
New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Country's two wheeler giant Bajaj Auto today said they would shift their focus into producing bigger vehicles including commercial vehicles and cars stating that the global demand today is for ''smaller cars and bigger bikes''.
Unveiling the 'Lite' commercial vehicle concept, which will be the foundation on its 4-wheelers launches in 2009, company Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj said the focus has shifted and is no more a scooter company.
''We shifted from being a scooter company to a motorcycle company and if the demand is for a four wheeler tomorrow with substantial profit we will move in to the segment,'' Mr Bajaj said.
Lite Commercial vehicles would provide economical and environment friendly transportation solutions for goods movement. The Lite vehicle concept would first offer low running costs&affordable monthly outflows coupled with a reasonable cost of acquisition.
The two base models with short and longer wheelbases were presented. These two base models could then have varying body frames for various application like open bodied pick-up van, close bodied delivery van, soft drink, gas cylinder carriers etc.
These vehicles will powered by a multi-cylinder diesel engine.
''The new vehicles will provide innovative technology, unique features, outstanding performance and landmark styling,'' Rajiv Bajaj said.
The company plans to develop 3.5 tonne vehicle which it claims to be environmentally friendly.
