Problems over i-card rule will be solved: PM

New Delhi, Jan 7: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said his government would resolve any ''practical problems'' over Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna's order, making it mandatory for Delhiites to carry photo identity cards.

Confirming that he had received a letter from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar protesting against the move, Dr Singh told reporters that he would not, however, want to go into the motives behind the order. ''If there are any practical problems, it will be resolved,'' he said. According to Mr Khanna's order, Delhiites would have to produce identity proof from January 15. The measure was aimed at checking infiltration of terrorists into the city, the LG had clarified.

Mr Nitish Kumar has contended that the i-card decision would prove to be a harassment for people from Bihar who are staying in the city in large numbers.

Asked about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's demand for personal security by the Special Protection Group (SPG), primarily meant for the Prime Minister, Dr Singh said it was for Home Minister Shivraj Patil to respond.
