Confirming the arrest of Mr Mann, the party general secretary Ram Singh claimed that about 300 to 400 SAD (Amritsar) leaders/activists were arrested from all over the state when they tried to stop the opertion of Orbit Transport buses. He said that about 50 activists were taken into custody outside the bus stand in Sangrur and another 14 were rounded up on the outskirts of Moga town while they tried to halt a bus of the Orbit company.
The SAD (Amritsar) has claimed that the Orbit Transport belongs to SAD (Badal) working president Sukhbir Singh Badal, son of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. The party had given a call to party workers to join hands on the 7th of every month to halt buses of this company from operating in the state.
Party general secretary Ram Singh claimed that todays agitation was a success as party workers had succeeded in restricting Orbit buses from operating in different parts of the state. He claimed that police escorts had been provided to the Orbit buses on various routes today.
He said the party would continue with its agitation on the 7th of next month as the Orbit transport buses were operating at the cost of state transport buses and causing a huge loss to the state exchequer.
