Thane, Jan 7 (UNI) Eminent Islamic scholars today urged the Muslim community to send their children for education, saying that a good education was the only solution to their problems.

The scholars were speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Malad Education and Foundation Engineering College at Khardi in this district.

The scholars were of the opinion that there was a lack of education, particularly higher education, among the Muslims and that the community should look into this issue seriously.

''Contrary to the basic teachings of Islam, which urge the Muslims to secure education, the performance of the community is poor in the educational field. The need of the hour is to start a Jihad against this lack of education,'' noted Islamic scholar Maulana Hasnain Nizami, Chief of Dargahe Maherara Sharif from Uttar Pradesh said.

According to Abdul Sattar Merchant, trustee of the Haji Ali Dargah, if the Muslims are to progerss, they will have to pursue the mission with vigour and same fervour as they do for any religious cause.

Expressing concern over the high drop-out rate in the Muslim community, Abdul Ali Azizi, member of National Commission for Backward Class, said the entire community should come forward to check the wrong trend and put every effort to send their children to school.
