IIW Intnl Congress 2008 to commence tomorrow
Chennai, Jan 7 (UNI) Over 700 delegates from 20 countries will participate in the three-day International Institute of Welding (IIW) International Congress 2008, beginning here tomorrow.
Former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman M R Srinivasan would inaugurate the Congress, IIW Board Member and IGCAR Director Baldev Raj told reporters here today.
All leading industrial houses and R and D organisations like SAIL, Indian Railways, DRDO, NTPC, DAE, ISRO, L and T, Godrej and Boyce and educational institutions like IITs and NITs would participate in the Congress, Dr Baldev added.
The theme of the Congress would be 'technological and material challenges in welding, fabrication and inspection'. The main objective would be to provide a dynamic forum of professionals for industries, academia and research institutes to share and enhance the knowledge base in 'welding science and technology'.
A unique expo 'Weld India : 2008' would be held concurrently, in which 5,000 visitors from steel, power, oil refining, chemical and petrochemicals, automobiles, defence, aerospace and SSI sectors were expected to attend.
Since the conference coincided with the 60th anniversary of IIW, a monograph on the current trends in welding science and technology in India would be released. A special postal cover would also be released to mark the occasion.
