Chandigarh, Jan 7 (UNI) The Haryana government has launched a new scheme for providing sports kits and diet money to Scheduled Caste students studying in government and government-aided colleges to encourage them to participate in sports activities.
A budget provision of Rs 14 lakh has been made during the current financial year, Haryana Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta said today.
Under the echeme, it was proposed to provide incentives to SC students and a sports kit costing upto Rs 2000 per annum per student would be given.
He said this step would help to promote sports among all the students belonging to Scheduled Castes category. Besides, it would help in upgrading and improving access to the sports facilities. The main aim of this policy was to provide better health and physical fitness to them.
The kit would be provided to 125 boys and 125 girl students belonging to Scheduled Castes categories who would participate as a team member in any of recognised disciplines at inter collges, inter university, state and national level events.
Mr Gupta said that any regular student belonging to Scheduled Caste category who would participate in the sports events would be eligible under the scheme.
Under the scheme each eligible student would be provided financial assistance worth Rs 60 per day for 100 days in a year for diet and Rs 2000 for the purpose of track-suits, sports-shoes, vests and shorts per annum.
