2 NE women file complaint of molestation near DU North Campus
New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) In yet another instance of the molestation of girl students from the North East, two women from Manipur have complained they were molested and beaten up by a group of inebriated people near Delhi University's North Campus.
The incident comes barely a few days after the shocking incident of drunken new year revellers molesting two women in Mumbai.
According to the complaint filed by Monika, who runs a cybercafe in the Gandhi Vihar area of North Delhi, her younger sister Anjali was followed from the market on Saturday evening by some local people, led by one Chunky, who passed abusive and lewd comments at her and attempted to molest her. Anjali remonstrated with them, but finally ran away from them to take shelter in the cybercafe.
About an hour and a half later, some of the same people, including Chunky, reportedly drunk came to their establishment and started calling them to come out. Asked to leave by Monika, they began shouting at the sisters and also threatened with physical harm or to close down the cybercafe. Consequently, they tried to enter the premises but were stopped by the customers there. At this they left but sent some others to continue the harassment tactics.
They also beat the women up, injuring them.
The police have filed a FIR under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Investigation was in progress, and a 16-year-old teenager had been arrested in this case.
