187 candidates lose security deposits in HP polls
Shimla, Jan 7 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda today said as many as 187 candidates had lost their security deposits in the state assembly election which concluded recently.
Out of a total of 336 candidates in the fray, 187 lost their security deposits, of which 173 were men and 14 women, she said in a release here.
Ms Nanda said seven candidates out of a total of nine in the Arki constituency and six candidates each in constituencies of Thural and Baijnath had lost their deposits.
Five candidates each in Shimla, Kasumpati, Sulah, Dharampur and Mandi, four each in Shilai, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Nadaunta, Chintpurni, Nurpur, Palampur, Kangra, Banjar, Gopalpur and Drang constituencies of the state lost their deposits, she added.
A candidate loses his security deposit in case he fails to get one sixth of the total number of valid votes polled by him.
