Chennai, Jan 6 (UNI) Fourth seeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia won his maiden Chennai Open singles title upsetting top seeded Rafael Nadal in straight set 6-0, 6-1 at Nungambakkam stadium here today.
However, the World Number 17 Youzhny's win did not carry full credit as the World Number 2 Nadal succumbed easily only due to the ill-effect of his marathon semifinal against Carlos Moya late last night.
Nadal's display was pathetic as the Spaniard could win just two games in the 64-minute-long match.
With Nadal's shots lacking his usual power and his movements hampered, Youzhny broke him in the second, fourth and sixth games of the first set and fourth and sixth games in the second set to romp home easily.
This was Youzhny's second appearance in Chennai and Nadal's third.
