Logo for Delhi Commonwealth games unveiled

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) The logo for the 19th Delhi Commonwealth Games which is inspired by the 'Chakra', was unveiled at a glitering event organised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) here today.

Numerous dignitaries, including, IOA president Mr Suresh Kalmadi, General Secretary Randhir Singh, Commonwealth Games President Michael Fennel, Delhi chief minister Mrs Sheila Dikshit and Union Minister of tourism and culture Mrs Ambika Soni were present on the occasion.

World champion in Archery Dola Banerjee, hockey player Dhanraj Pillay, former All England badminton champion Pullela Gopichand and Athelete Shiny K Wilson also graced the occasion.

Kalmadi, unveiling the logo said, '' 1000 days are left for the Games, a lot of action will happen during this time. Delhi will emerge as a global city after the succesful hosting of the event.

Already low floor buses, metros, airports and flyovers will change Delhi's landscape.'' ''A succesful hosting of the competition may also lead to the Olympics coming to Delhi,'' he added.

Chief Minister Mrs Sheila Dikshit has vowed to provide all the neccessary help to the games organising commitee and said, ''We will make it the best Commonwealth Games ever. We will do as the IOA and Games federation committee tells us to do and may be even more than that.'' Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee Manavjit Singh Sandhu, speaking on behalf of the sportspersons said, ''We are a good host but we will fight tooth and nail on the field.'' Adding ''In this edition of the games we will have best chance to bag maximum number of medals.'' UNI TB RKM DB2018
