Five arrested in Latur rape and murder case
Mumbai, Jan 6 (UNI) Five people have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl at Udgir in Latur district of Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who hails from Latur, personally instructed the Superintendent of Police to investigate the matter and arrest the culprits.
Tension had prevailed in Dawan village of Udgir after police recovered the body of a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered by six persons on the night of January 1, police said.
The crime came to light after the victim's mother, Salmabi filed a FIR with the police, accusing six persons for raping and murdering her daughter.
According to police, subsequent probe into the matter led the police to recover the girl's dead body, which was found hanging from a tree at an isolated place in the village.
