Ludhiana, Jan 6 (UNI) Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 23 kg heroin from Delhi and Bathinda in the last two days and arrested a smuggler in this connection.
DRI sources revealed here today that while 11 kg was seized from the national capital, the remaining 12 kg was seized in Bathinda town. A Jammu based smuggler identified as Baldev Singh was taken into custody in connection with the crime and later booked under the NDPS Act.
The total worth of the drug in the foreign market is estimated to be Rs 23 crore and it was smuggled from Pakistan through the Jammu border.
Giving details sources said that on specific information a DRI team nabbed Baldev Singh while he was carrying a bag containing 11 packets of heroin in Delhi. He was to deliver the drug to a Nigerian, whose identity the DRI has not disclosed so far.
Later on the interrogation of Baldev Singh, another DRI team picked up a bag containing 12 kg heroin from a relative of the alleged culprit. The relative however was let off after questioning as he was not aware about the contents of the bag.
