Diarrhoea outbreak in TN village claims woman, 200 affected
Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, Jan 6 (UNI) A 35-year-old woman died and about 200 people will affected due to outbreak of diarrhoea in North Poolankulam Village, here.
Official sources said today, M Rani died at Tenkasi Government Hospital last night. Fifteen people had been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea. The rest were treated as outpatients.
Other sources claimed another woman, Rama Lakshmi, of the same village also died. But, the report was yet to be confirmed by officials.
Health Department officials suspect mixing of sewage with drinking water and poor sanitation facilities as the reason behind the outbreak.
A medical team rushed to the village to take preventive measures and treat the affected. The district administration has appealed to the residents of North Poolankulam and the adjoining villages to drink boiled water.
