CM launches 'Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme'
Chennai, Jan 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today launched the 'Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme' in the state with rest of the country.
Polio drops were administered to about 70 lakh children below the age of five years in immunisation booths, set up in 40,399 public places all over the state.
The booths were located in government hospitals, primary health centres, health sub-centres, noon-meal centres and schools.
Transit booths have been set up in railway stations, bus stands, temples and tourist spots, while mobile teams would comb remote and inaccessible areas.
About two lakh personnel, including volunteers from voluntary organisations like Rotary, would be involved in the campaign.
Private doctors have also been requested to keep their clinics open to administer oral polio vaccine to children.
