BSP would follow UP formula in AP: Mayawati
Hyderabad, Jan 6 (UNI) Reiterating that Bahujan Samaj Party was not against the upper castes, party President and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today called on weaker sections, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Muslim minorities to fight unitedly to capture power under the BSP in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking at a public meeting, organised by the BSP state Unit here, she claimed the weaker sections and upper castes poor were facing socio, economic problems in the state. The demography of weaker sections was high, compared to certain communities, which were ruling the state, since Independence, she added.
Alleging that the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have divided the SC communities under sub-castes on the SC classification issue, Ms Mayawati said the ruling parties adopted ''devide and rule'' policy to create an impression that the SC communities were a 'minority group'.
The total population of the weaker sections, SCs, STs and Minorities was more than 50 per cent, she added. They were denied representation in the legislative bodies to the proportionate population, she alleged.
Alleging that 'a section of media and some political parties were propogating that her party was against upper castes, Ms Mayawati said her government was providing opportunities to all poor in upper castes and weaker sections to uplift their living standards in UP.
