Two Sri Lankans arrested in Mangalore
Mangalore, Jan 5 (UNI) Police today raided a lodge in the city and arrested two Sri Lankan nationals, having 'connections' with the LTTE, and seized fake passports and Rs three lakh worth jewellery from them.
On a tip off, a lodge was raided and Bala Ruban alias Ruban alias Kadirvelu Gunaselvan from north Sri Lanka and Nallatambi Jayasheelan alias Sheelan from North Jafna, both residing in Bangalore were arrested, police said.
Police seized credit and debit cards of various banks, jewellery worth Rs three lakh and fake passports in the name of Gunaselvan.
On interrogation, they confessed that a Sri Lanka-based Tamil had given them fake credit cards to purchase jewellery for which they were promised suitable commission. They confessed to have purchased jewellery from Karkala and Mangalore.
Police also suspect that they were part of an international fake credit card network. The fake credit cards were prepared in Chennai.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that the jewellery had been purchased to fund LTTE. The mobile phone used by the culprits had also proved their contact with foreigners.
The culprits were also tactful about geting information from the software of those businessmen having credit cards and preparing fake credit cards to sell them and purchase jewellery, the police added.
