TTD asked to keep accounts intact
Tirupati, Jan 5 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Committee on Assurances today expressed 'displeasure' over the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's (TTD) accounts on the first and second phases of mass marriages, conducted last year.
Briefing reporters after a review meeting with TTD officials, Committee Chairman B B Punnaiah here said, the TTD failed to maintain accounts of mass marriages held on February 22 and August 28, 2007, perfectly.
The accusation came at a time when it had announced to hold the third phase on March nine.
''We have requested the officials to cut down on expenses. About Rs 7,000 is allocated for each couple for ornaments, dress and other expenses,'' he said.
Rs 2.71 crore was spent in the first phase for 4,658 marriages while Rs 6.25 crore was the total expense for 8,113 marriages in the second phase, he noted.
