Chennai, Jan 4 (UNI) Top seed and world number two Rafael Nadal stayed in course for his first title quest in Chennai Open 2008 downing his compatriot, unseeded Guilermo Garcia Lopez 6-3, 6-2 to enter the semi finals here today.
Nadal thus set up a semi final contest with another Spaniard and two times Chennai Open winner Carlos Moya who earlier outplayed France's Florent Serra 6-3, 6-4 in the first quarter final.
''This was a good match for me,'' Nadal said after the match and added that his clash with Moya would be another good match.
''I always play my 100 per cent, every match is important for me,'' he added.
The left hander, who is three times French Open champion produced another round of vintage tennis to overcome Lopez breaking the latter in the eighth game of the first set and the fifth and the seventh games in the second.
Lopez often caught his famed rival off guard with some lovely all court game, but Nadal not really hindered by the long interruption due to rain when he was 2-1 up after the match began. Lopez came back into the game whenever down on his serve and Nadal seemed all set to break him, with a lovely volley or a drop at the net or a scorching down the line passing shot.
For Lopez this was the second loss against Nadal in an ATP tour meeting. Lopez had reached the finals in Chennai Open in 2005.
