Metal prices ease on poor buying support

Mumbai, Jan 5 (UNI) Prices of both ferrous and non-ferrous metal categories declined today on sluggish demand by bulk consumers along with discouraging advice from domestic centres like Kolkata and Delhi, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange (BME) said.

In the ferrous-metal category, copper utensils edged down by Rs 200 per quintal. Copper heavy, brass utensils and brass cuttings also slashed by Rs 100 each amid absence of demand, traders said.

In the non-ferrous metal category, copper wire bar and zinc slab declined by Rs 200 per quintal each owing to improved offers by stockists.

Nickel cathode was down by Rs 55 per kg due to poor buying support, traders added.

Following are the spot metal prices per quintal: Ferrous metals: copper heavy - Rs 33,500, copper utensils - Rs 31,200, brass utensils - Rs 24,700, brass cuttings - Rs 25,300 and aluminium utensils - Rs 10,400 per kg.

Non-ferrous metals: copper wire bars - Rs 36,800, aluminium ingots - Rs 12,000, zinc slab - Rs 12,800, lead ingots Rs 12,000, tin slab - Rs 800 and nickel cathode - Rs 1,410 per kg.
