Neemuch, MP, Jan 5 (UNI) There is a decline in the detection of cases relating to narcotics smuggling in Madhya Pradesh's major opium producing districts Neemuch and Mandsaur as compared to the previous year.
In 2007, 208 accused were arrested in 154 cases while in 2006, 260 accused were apprehended in 197 cases under NDPS Act, official sources said.
More than 331 kg opium, smack, morphine and other narcotics were seized in 2007, while about 418 kg narcotics were seized in 2006 by both police and narcotics control bureau.
In 2007, more than 198 kg prohibited chemicals used for making smack from opium were also seized as compared to 134 kg in 2006.
Similarly, 2007 also witnessed a steep decline in the seizure of poppy husk. Police and Narcotics bureau seized about 341 quintal poppy husk in 2006, while only 52 quintal poppy husk was seized last year.
