Kolkata, Jan 5: The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) will hold a global conference on ''Geology: Indian scenario and global contest'' here on January 7 wherein scientists from Europe, America, Australia and some Asian countries will deliberate on problems and prospects on earth matters.
The conference will also focus on four major themes - Quantitative analysis&Simulation in earth science, Precambrian Terrain&Tectonics, Evolution&Diversity of late Paleozoic&Mesozoic Terrestiral Vertebrates, and alluvial proceses&deposits. Prof Sankar K Pal, the Director of the Institute, will inauguarate the meet at the institute's geology auditorium and Prof Michael Brown, University of Keele, UK, and Prof&Chair, Department of Geology, University of Maryland, USA, would be the chief guest.
Besides, several other internationally acclaimed scientists like Prof Alan Collins, University of Adelaide, Dr Tom Kepm, Oxford University Museum of natural History, and Prof Maurice Tucker, Durham University will also attend the conference.
The conference is a part of the ISI's platinum jubilee celebration.
