ECI confirms voting status of Tripura State Rifles jawans
Agartala, Jan 5 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has assured the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans of providing them voting rights in the constituencies where their families were staying.
In an official statement issued here today, the ECI made it clear that 2,400 TSR voters would be allowed to enrol their names at the places where their families had been enrolled, revoking its earlier decision.
Earlier, the commission had instructed TSR jawans to cast their votes where they were staying at least for the past six months.
''All the jawans would be allowed to enrol their names in their respective constituencies with a special arrangement before final publication of the electoral rolls,'' state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr G S G Ayyanger said.
He, however, asserted that the Assembly elections would be held in February, as the ECI had sought the views on the date of the final publication as well as the date of election.
''The process of inclusion that got underway is expected to be over before the final publication of electoral rolls,'' he said, adding that a nodal officer would be appointed in the state Election department so that he could interact with the Electoral Returning Officers (EROs) promptly in the run up to the elections.
