Chandigarh, Jan 5 (UNI) Chandigarh U-17 defeated Himachal Pardesh by 4-0 in the boys Under-17 hockey match of the 53rd National School Games which began at the Sector 42 Hockey Sports Complex here today.
Captain Gagandeep Singh gave Chandigarh lead in the 16th minute.
Gurjinder Singh made it 2-0 by converting a penalty corner in 43rd minute.
Diljot Singh (44th) and (51st) added one goal each to the kitty of Chandigarh. Chandigarh were awarded eight penalty corners but could convert only one. Himachal only got one penalty corner but failed to convert it into goal.
In other hockey matches of boys U-17, Punjab beat Delhi by 1-0 Ranwant Singh scored the all-important goal in 56th minute through penalty corner.
In other matches, Haryana beat Tamil Nadu by 5-0, UP beat Rajasthan by 14-0, Orissa beat Maharashtra by 11-0, Chhattisgarh beat MP by 2-1, Assam beat AP by 6-2.
In the match played between Orissa and Maharashtra, the first goal was scored by Rajesh Mind in the 16th minute. Orissa scored 10 field goals and one goal by penalty stroke in 57th minute.
Sunil, Sunlika, Loden, David, Rajesh, Aihnesh scored in 23rd, 33rd, 35th, 37th , 42nd, 50th, 51st, 58th, and 59th minutes respectively.
In the softball matches of boys, Chandigarh beat Goa by 16-0 in U-14, Maharashtra beat Delhi by 5-4, Vidya Bharti beat Gujarat by 8-7 in U-19, and Chandigarh beat AP by 13-7 whereas in the girls matches Chhattisgarh beat Goa by 11-0 U-17 and Chandigarh beat J&K by 11-0 in U-19.
Adviser to the Chandigarh Administrator Pradip Mehra inugurated the Games being organised by the Chandigarh Education Department.
Goa, Orrissa and Himachal Pardesh won first, second and third prizes in march past, respectively.
On this occasion, S K Setia DPI(s) distributed skipping ropes and pullover jackets to all the participants of various states.
