Army Commander reviews operations against militants
Imphal, Jan 5 (UNI) Lt Gen M S Dadwal, GOC 3 Corps, today reviewed the military operations launched against Manipur militants at Chandel district.
The GOC arrived here yesterday. He was briefed by Maj Gen BK Chengapa, IGAR (South) on the security situation in Manipur and the ongoing Samtal Operations, the PRO, IGAR today said.
The GOC also called on Governor SS Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and apprised them of the latest security position.
The Corps Commander informed that in the ongoing Samtal operations the Assam Rifles and Army had so far cleared an area till S Bongjoi of militants and that up to New Samtal will be cleared in a few days.
In the operations, 13 United National Liberation Front cadres were killed and many injured. The rebels later surrendered IEDs.
The security forces had also cleared the road of IEDs.
The Lt Gen requested an administration set up, law and order and development to reach out to the Samtal area. To this, the Chief Minister assured that all steps will be taken.
