Punjabi folk festival from Jan 7-9 in Jalandhar
Jalandhar, Jan 4 (UNI) International Punjabi Folklore Academy is organising Punjabi folk festival and Bhangra Olympiad here from January 7 to 9.
Talking to media persons here today, Folklore Academy principal Inderjeet Singh said that the festival would start with a seminar on the topic,''Folk Dances of Punjab Down from Traditional to Modern'', in which scholars related to Punjabi culture like Dr Nahar Singh (Panjab University), Dr Ranjit Singh Bajwa, Dr Rawel Singh (Punjabi Academy, Delhi), Dr Parbhsharan Kaur, Dr Jagir Singh Noor, Dr Iqbal Singh Dillon, Dr Amninder Kaur, Dr Gurbhajan Gill and many more personalities would be participating.
Chief Parliamentry Secretary Sarwan Singh Phillaur would preside over the function and Chief Minister adviser Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema would be the chief guest, he added.
The next day, Punjabi folk dances, which are becoming extinct, like Malwai Diddha, Jhummar, Sammi, Ludi and Dandas would be performed, he said adding that five eminent dholies would be honoured with performance of folk orchestra and Bhangra.
On the last day, he said there would be Bhangra competition between the teams from abroad, Punjab and Delhi, also renowned Punjabi singers, who have their roots in Punjab, would be honoured, like Malkiat Singh (UK), Sarabjeet Cheema, Pammi Bai, Amrinder Gill, AK Makhan, Satwinder Bagga, Jassi Sohal, Gary Hothi and Davinder Dyalpuri.
