Mumbai, Jan 4 (UNI) The annual 'Gulf Foster A Child Car Drive' will be held on January 13 here.

The event sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd and organised by Sportscraft is an initiative of combining motor sports and a social objective of 'Bringing joy to Little Lives'.

''This Drive is not about speed, but proficiency in finding one's way by use of a tulip chart that will be provided at the start,'' Srikant Karani of Sportscraft informed at a press conference here last night.

In each vehicle a family will drive with an orphaned, lesser-privileged child, from Our Lady's Home. The team will have to decide on its navigator, who is responsible for deciphering the tulip rout chart that will be given to them in advance. Participants will be timed at the various controls along the route, he added.

There will be special prizes for all-ladies teams. In addition there will be prizes for the best dressed team and best decorated car. As always Gulf Oil will be making a handsome donation to the orphanage in kind. Besides, like last year, Sportscraft will donate the amount it receives by way of entry fees to the orphanage, Karani further stated.

Lube Business of Gulf Oil Corporation President Ravi Chawla said, ''This unique car drive has a special significance at Gulf Oil. It provides a platform where we as a corporate house can fulfil our social responsibility towards the society.'' Twenty-five entries are being offered to corporate houses while another 40 will be reserved for individual entries on first come first serve bases, it was announced at the conference.

The Drive will start from Our Lady's Home, Parel, and wind its way around the city before finishing at an undisclosed location.

Like previous years, the response is already encouraging and Sportscraft, because of logistics, will accept only 65 entries.

Entry fees are Rs 5000 for a corporate entry and Rs 1000 for other vehicles. Out of Rs 1000, 50 per cent will be donated to the orphanage at Our Lady's Home. The corporate fees will be utilized towards education fees for some of the orphan children, Karani added.
