Gujarat takes over Railways in the Ranji Plate final

By Staff

Mumbai, Jan 4 (UNI) Gujarat will start with a slight advantage when they take on former Ranji champions Railways in the five-day Ranji Trophy Plate Division final which will begin at the Brabourne Stadium here from tomorrow.

Both Gujarat and Railways by virtue of reaching the Plate final have guaranteed themselves a place in the Elite Division for next season.

Gujarat who are led by India discard Parthiv Patel have a balanced team with the new ball attack in the able hands of Asraf Makda, Siddharth Trivedi and Amit Singh, while the batting revolves around Parthiv who is in superb form this year and the talented left hander Niraj Patel with Timil Patel and Nilesh Modi providing a strong back up.

Railways will be depending on their former India players left arm spinner Murali Kartik and Sanjay Bangar to come up with the goods, with the batting being in the hands of opener Amit Pagnis, Sanjeeb Sanyal, while the bowling apart from the captain will be looked after by pacer Harvinder Singh and spinner Kulamani Parida.

The wicket at the Brabourne stadium looks a good batting wicket and the team winning the toss should have no hesitation in batting first and trying to put up a huge score to put the other team under pressure.

Railways: Murali Kartik (captain), Karan Sharma, Raja Ali, Mahesh Rawat, Sanjeeb Sanyal, Sanjay Bangar, Harshad Rawle, Amit Pagnis, M Khote, Siddharth Joshi, Harvinder Singh, Madan Yadav, Kulamani Parida, Santosh Saxena, Rahul Dev.

Gujarat (from): Parthiv Patel, Rajesh Tabiar, Nehal Raval, Nilesh Chaudhary, Hem Joshipura, Hitesh Majmudar, Ashraf Makda, Nilesh Modi, Mohnish Parmar, Niraj Patel, Timil Patel, Digant Popat, Amit Singh, Bhavik Thaker, Siddharth Trivedi.
