DaimlerChrysler annual sales surges 18pc

New Delhi, Jan 4: German auto major DaimlerChrysler today said it has registered an 18 per cent growth year-on-year in its annual sales, which stood at 2,491 units in 2007 in the country's growing luxury car segment.

''The new S-Class proved to be the hottest selling luxury sedan in India. Powered by locally manufactured petrol and diesel variants as well as imported options, a total of 457 S-Class cars were sold in January-December 2007, against 248 units in 2006, marking a growth of 84 per cent,'' a company statement said.

The E-Class model, which was introduced in December 2006, sold 1,137 units in 2007, a growth of 24 per cent over 2006, it added.

In the Completely Built imported cars segment comprising models like CLS-Class, SLK-Class, SL-Class, M-Class, CL-Class, the company recorded a 74 per cent growth.

Daimler manufactures the S-Class, E-Class and the C-Class cars in its facility at Pune.
