Constable remanded to judicial custody

Bangalore, Jan 4 (UNI) A police constable, arrested on charges of raping a minor girl at Arasikere in Hassan district, was remanded to 14-days judicial custody by a local court here.

Police today said the 32-year-old constable Shashidhar, attached to Arasikere police station, had outraged the modesty of the 14-year-old girl, who was waiting for a train to the city along with another girl.

The constable, in an inebriated condition, threatened the girls and took them to a nearby play ground, where he raped one of the girls.

On hearing cries for help, people rushed to the spot and thrashed the constable before handing him over to the police.

It was said that the girl had run away from the house after her parents fixed her marriage against her wish.

The girl was admitted to a hospital and a medical report was awaited, police added.
