AP constitutes expert committee to study SRSP project
Hyderabad, Jan 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah today said the government has constituted an expert committee to look into various aspects of the 'Sree Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) Stage-I'.
Talking to newspersons here, he said a five-member committee headed by retired engineer and Advisor to the Government T S Prakash Rao would look into the present carrying capacity of the Kakitiya Canal below Lower Manair Dam (LMD).
The two-decade old canal was designed to discharge 8,600 cusecs of water. Due to silt and weed, the carrying capacity of the canal had come down, he said adding the committee would look into the design capacity and other aspects to strengthen the canal.
The canal was breached in 2006 after 4,000 cusecs water released into it, he said.
The committee would submit its report within three months and the government would take necessary action based on the report, he said, adding the government had also decided to recruit 1,357 Assistant Engineers through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission.
