Sikh battalion leaves for UN mission in Congo
New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) A battalion of the Sikh Regiment today left for UN peace keeping mission in Congo.
Addressing soldiers of 6 Sikh before their departure, Maj Gen Vinay Bhatnagar reminded them of the challenging task which, he said, required utmost dedication, devotion and humanitarian approach for ensuring peace in the African country.
Raised in 1962, 6 Sikh has been nominated for the UN mission because of their outstanding performance in the 1971 war and in counter insurgency operations in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir, a Defence Ministry statement said.
