New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) The Centre today announced a Rs 13.13 crore subsidy for continuation of the helicopter services in Lakshadweep islands by Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd for another five years till March 31, 2012.
The service for the past 20 years had proved very useful to the Union Territory administration in interconnecting its islands scattered in Arabian sea, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Another Cabinet decision pertained to the approval for extending the term of the E-committee upto February 2009 or till its work was completed whichever was earlier. It also modified the manner of selection and appointment of the Chairman and Members on the committee. The Chairman shall be a retired Chief Justice or a retired Judge of any high court to be appointed by the Chief Justice of India.
The extended term would enable the E-Committee in monitoring the implementation of the ongoing E-Courts Project for the Indian judiciary.
