Kamat to meet Kamal Nath on SEZs issue
Panaji, Jan 3 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today airdashed to New Delhi to have a dialogue with Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath on the proposed ''denotification'' of three Special Economic Zones (SEZs), notified by the Centre, for Goa.
This is amid strong protests by anti-SEZ activists following the Commerce Ministry Secretary yesterday expressing the inability of the Centre to denotify the SEZs.
Chief Secretary J P Singh has already been camping in the capital. The Government is yet to officially write to the Ministry seeking the denotificaton.
The CM, on New Year's eve, announced that the Government would approach the Centre for denotifcation of the SEZs, which, he said, are not in the interest of Goa or Goans in the existing form as opined by different sections including the coalition government partners.
The anti-SEZ campaigners maintained that they would intensify the agitation if the state failed to scrap the SEZs forthwith besides, instituting a probe into huge land allotments to expose politicians behind the multi-crore rupee scam.
