New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) Former skipper Rahul Dravid has performed creditably, scoring a half-century in the first innings of the Sydney Test which should give him a lot of confidence and he will regain his form, former Indian pace spearhead Javagal Srinath said here today.
Talking to newspersons, Srinath said that Dravid is a seasoned campaigner and he only needs a good knock to get back his touch.
''Rahul scored a good 50 today,'' he said.''This innings will help him get back his confidence.'' When asked whether Dravid was under pressure from the media after he flopped while opening the innings during the MCG Test, Srinath said,''he will not be under media pressure. He has passed that age.'' He said that Virender Sehwag should open the innings along with Dravid. Since Dravid has a defensive style of play, he takes time to settle down. An explosive player like Sehwag at the other end will give him the ideal support to bu ''Dravid's core strength is defence,'' he said.''Sehwag will give him the right support at the other end.'' Stating that the Sydney Test is still wide open Srinath said that the Indian batsmen will have to come up with an inspired performance on the third day.
The SCG pitch is expected to aid the spinners on the fourth day. This will enable Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh to put the Aussie batsmen under pressure he opined.
Asked about the controversial decision of umpire Steve Bucknor wherein he ruled Andrew Symonds not out off the bowling of Ishant Sharma, Srinath said both good and bad decisions are a part of the game, declining to comment further on the matter.
