Shimla, Jan 3 (UNI) In a bid to spread traffic safety measures amongst the masses of the capital town the, city police has started a weeklong traffic awareness camp.
Interacting with media persons here today Shimla SP, A.P. Singh said the purpose of this camp was to make people acquainted with the traffic rules and regulations so that mishap could be averted.
''We are talking help of non government organisations and road safety clubs besides locals to aware the people, especially regular drivers regarding traffic conventions.
There were as many as 358 road accidents in Shimla district in year 2006 in which 126 persons were killed while one hundred sixty two people died in the year 2007 in 378 accident cases,'' he said.
Mr Singh said that during the awareness camp that had commenced from January one, the police personnel's along with volunteers are going around schools, colleges, hospitals and other public places to acquaint people about traffic rules through desirable communication means.
