Mandya, Karnataka, Jan 3 (UNI) The relatives of a woman protested before a private nursing home here after she underwent abortion to remove what believed to be a female foetus but that turned out to be otherwise.
The incident occurred today when the couple were allegedly told by the doctors of a nursing home that the woman carried a female foetus and agreed to conduct the abortion.
However after the procedure it was found that the woman was carrying a male baby. A complaint has been lodged with district health officer by the husband Ramesh for 'foeticide' by the private nursing home.
According to him the nursing home had given a scan report that the couple would be having a female child and based on it they decided to get the foetus aborted.
The couple came to the nursing home in the town from Anniambody village for scaning and same had been done in Channapatna as well.
After being told that the foetus was female and they preferred to get it aborted for which the doctor at the nursing home allegedly agreed to do the procedure.
When the operation was done today and it was found that the foetus was male. Then some of the relatives of Ramesh and others started protest against the hospital for 'wrong diagnosis'.
Later they lodged a complaint with DHO against the nursing home and wanted action be taken against the doctors and paramedical staff in the hospital.
However, the DHO Krishne Gowda, after studying the case said he would bring the case to the notice of the police who would take up an investigation.
