Centre waives Rs 239 cr loans of Goa
New Delhi, Jan 03 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved waiving of outstanding central loans of Rs 239.22 crore along with interests in respect of Goa,Daman and Diu for period before Goa became a state of the Indian Union in May 1987.
Briefing the media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi said the matter had been pending since 1998-99 in pursuance of the Goa,Daman and Diu Reorganisation Act which does not have any enabling provision for making Goa to pay up pre-1987 loans.
He said the centre's decision would set right the records of Goa and Union Ministry of Finance which had given the loans.
