Moga, Jan 3 (UNI) Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who today inaugurated an internation-level indoor stadium here, said his government was committed to boost sports in the state.
The stadium equipped with all modern facilities for sportspersons was constructed by the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore under the Centrally-sponsored sport development programme.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for Rs 7.50 crore outdoor stadium which will be completed within two years by the PUDA.
The new outdoor stadium will have all the basic and modern facilities with efficient coaches and astro-turf ground for hockey.
While addressing a public meeting on the occasion, Mr Badal said that the State government was determined to improve the standard of sports in the State and giving top priority to appoint 170 coaches in the Sports Department in all the districts for all the games on contract basis.
He also said that he had directed the Punjab PWD B and R Department authorities for immediate survey to construct Ring Road at Moga town to facilitate the traffic to Kotkapura, Muktsar, Ferozepur and Amritsar. The Ring Road will be about 10 km long.
Punjab chief minister also announced to develop Moga Forestry area into a park and added that the green cover in the area will be maintained.
Mr Badal also announced that Moga, Faridkot and Muktsar were included in the master plan being prepared for the integrated development of 40 Punjab towns.
All the houses in these towns would be covered under sewerage and drinking water supply facilities under the World Bank-assisted project.
