Academic's call to create interest in nanotech
Puducherry, Jan 3 (UNI) National Institute of Technology (NIT), Director M Chidambaram today called upon lecturers to work towards creating interest in the field of nanotechnology among students, particularly those pursuing engineering courses.
Inaugurating an international conference on 'Nanotechnology and Microelectronics' at the Pondicherry Engineering College here, Prof Chidambaram said the infrastructure for carrying out research into nanotechnology was slowly picking up in India and a laboratory had been set up at the IIT for this purpose.
He called upon the faculty to update themselves and provide a clear picture on the latest developments in the field to students.
In his address, College Principal T G Palanivel said nanotechnology would play a vital role in almost all spheres in the future and cited the potential use of nanotechnology in producing low cost textile fabrics and paint for auto sector.
As many as 150 experts and researchers from across the globe, including USA and UK, were attending the conference.
